Living museum

History and tradition

Founded in 1778, Bodega Remigio Salas has borne witness to and played a leading role in the evolution of the art of winemaking. Every corner tells a story, and each bottle carries the passion passed down from generation to generation.

In 1875, Pablo Salas Quevedo responded to the phylloxera crisis by exporting wine to Bordeaux under the PS brand. Together with his son Pedro, he founded the company Eldana, responsible for transporting wine from Dueñas to France. To meet demand, they expanded the winery in 1887 with an exceptional wine press.

At the beginning of the 20th century, with the arrival of phylloxera from France, Pedro Salas replanted the vineyard, and his son Remigio, together with his wife Pilar, continued the work. Remigio played a key role in the establishment of the Cigales D.O. Their dedication to vines and wine turned the winery into a Living Wine Museum.

After Remigio’s death, his widow Pilar and their daughter Amada modernized the winery without losing its traditional essence.

The vineyards

The origin of Bodega Remigio Salas lies in a passion for vineyards. These fields, silent witnesses to decades of dedication and love for the land, are the cornerstone that gives life to exceptional wines.

Today, the nearly 90 hectares of vineyards, with an average age of more than 70 years, represent a unique heritage that few wineries can match. They create a distinctive and self-sustaining ecosystem that gives our wines an inimitable personality.

Each vine tells a story of harvest cycles, changing climates, and skilled hands that have tended these grapes with love and respect. In these vineyards, age translates into complexity, depth, and character.

Here you find limestone soils that have given rise to elegant wines from Cerrato, a premier wine-growing region with a distinguished past, as well as the stony soils left by the Pisuerga River.

Varieties such as Garnacha and Tempranillo among red grapes, and Albillo and the traditional Verdejo among white grapes, make up an ecosystem worth visiting in any season of the year.

The Winery

In the heart of Dueñas (Palencia), Bodega Remigio Salas stands as a living museum that masterfully blends history, tradition, and technology in every drop of its wines.

With a labyrinth of underground passages, the winery dates back to 1736 and comprises nine cellars connected by corridors that form the ageing, fermentation, and production rooms. The constant temperature and controlled humidity in these underground galleries give the wines a unique character that has been passed down from generation to generation.

Bodega Remigio Salas is not only an oenological experience but also a cultural heritage site. From its historic stone wine press to its bottle aging room, every corner tells a story that is shared with enthusiasm during the visit.

A journey through time that ends with the promise that each bottle holds not only wine, but the very essence of a tradition that has withstood the passage of centuries.
